Carte’s Big Game Hounds

    My name is J. R. Carte! I have been hound hunting all my life in the mountains of WV. I started raccoon hunting when I was a boy with many different breeds, then I was introduced to Bear hunting with hounds and I have been hooked ever since. Over the years, I have done my homework and strive to find and raise the best breed of Big Game Hounds around.The history behind the hounds I am running today started over many years of good breeding programs from many different breeders. The Reg. Trigg hounds I raise are from a great line of hounds that come from Cecil Boggs (Saw Mill Run Line) on the east coast. Mr. Boggs has been breeding Triggs and used them as Bear dogs for many years. Many of the old Triggs you find out west came from this same line of hounds. I also raise a great line of old style House bred Treeing walkers that I cross with the Reg. Trigg that has made us proven bear, lion, and bobcat dogs. At times I do have Reg. Trigg & Reg. Treeing Walker pups available for sale but only when I need them for my breeding program. If you are looking for a smart hound that has good Track style, Speed, Longevity in the Chase, and great treeing ability then I can help.  I have sold hounds all over the country and in many different types of terrain for hunting Bear, Lion, & Bobcat. I have also sold pups for hunting raccoon, hog, coyote, wolf and leopard and had all positive feedback.  My breeding program is unique and has taken a lot of effort and hard work but it’ been worth it all. The cross pups I raise come with a pedigree from us so if you want to make you own crosses in the future you will know the dogs back ground. I am always looking for all the good and bad traits in my hounds to  improve and have not made any out crosses for several years. All of the hounds that we breed we hunt. I don’t have any brood dogs! I post pups on are hounds for sale page as they become available. And at time I will sale off some of my older dogs and a few started dogs. Here at Carte’s Big Game hounds do to my unique breeding program the availability of are pups and finished hounds are low. But I was never in this sport to try and make a living selling hounds. I only raise them as I need them! Hound hunting is a tradition and a life style that has been big part of my life and that as passed down through many generations.
